Maintaining Better Physical and Mental Health for Actors
How to maintain yourself as an actor
It is true that you need to do a lot of studying and training to become a good actor. In addition to that, every actor (regardless of age) should try to maintain a superb physical health too. Optimal physical health will help boost your mental health. With that said, here’s how to maintain yourself as an actor.
- Eat healthy food
Although this sounds obvious, many young actors are not too careful when it comes to their eating habits. What you eat must include all the nutrients such as protein, fruits, vegetables and even carbohydrates. You will be utilising a lot of energy as an actor and your brain needs enough sugar to function at its optimal level. So, avoiding carbohydrates is not a good option for a young actor who wishes to maintain an optimal emotional state. However, the consumption of the carbohydrates should be done sensibly. Try not to consume high calorie carbohydrate after 3pm.
- Drink plenty of water
You must remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Water helps you to keep your body hydrated and maintain a better appearance. Apart from that, water boosts your metabolism and helps flush away toxins. If you can consume lemon-infused water particularly during the day time, the results will be remarkable.
- Never skip breakfast
You mustn’t skip your breakfast no matter how busy you are. A healthy breakfast prevents you from over snaking throughout the day. Yogurt, nuts and cereals are excellent choices for your breakfast and will enable you to keep up your energy levels throughout the day.
- Get enough exercises
One of the most important aspects of your life as an actor is to engage in enough physical exercise on a daily basis. Try to perform some exercise for at least 30 minutes per day, at least three times a week You may engage in running, cycling, swimming or any other effective activity that gives enough exercise to your whole body. Team sports are both greta for exercising as well as being fun!
- Consider meditating
Medication can help actors in many ways. Try to meditate 5-15 minutes before you start the day and another 5-15 minutes before you go to bed – the results will be amazing. You will start to experience better focus, better mental clarity, better memory and more energy. All you have to do is to find a quite place, sit comfortably, close your eyes and concentrate on nothing but your own breathing. Gradually, you can make it a habit and achieve significant results over the time.
- Get enough sleep
This is another vital aspect for an actor. You must sleep really well in order to stay mentally and physically healthy during the following day. Adequate sleep helps your mind and body to rejuvenate.
Hopefully with sticking to healthy lifestyle choices, you’ll be fully primed to tackle the industry.
